Navy Seal Receives Medal of Honor at White House Ceremony

This week, President Barack Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to Otsego graduate and Navy SEAL, Chief Edward Byers.  Byers participated in the 2012 rescue of American Dr. Dilip Joseph, who was abducted along with his driver and an Afghan interpreter. The rescue mission was conducted by members of the Navy’s SEAL Team 6-- best known for undertaking the mission that killed Osama bin Laden.

Chief Byers is the first living, active duty member of the Navv and the 6th Navy SEAL to receive the Medal of Honor in four decades.  The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest US military decoration, awarded by Congress to a member of the armed forces for gallantry and bravery in combat at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.
