Marina District Metropark Renderings Released

There’s a new waterfront park coming to Toledo in the area formerly known as the Marina District.

Along the banks of the Maumee River in East Toledo, Metroparks Toledo has a multi-stage plan to purchase around 70 acres to develop into urban green space. There are plans for a sledding hill, urban camping spaces, bike and walking trails along a pedestrian bridge, river kayaking and more.

The park will serve as a connection to the other East Side neighborhoods and Downtown. Metroparks Toledo has noted that by next year (2019), every Lucas County resident will be within five miles of a park. This will be the sixth Metropark on the Maumee River and will become a part of the new designated Ohio Water trail.

In March, the Toledo City Planning Commission approved plans for development in East Toledo, the former Marina District site. While part of the land will be purchased by the Metroparks Toledo, the other part will be developed into a mix of residential and commercial space.
