Sylvania Community Arts Commission Announces Red Bird Arts District

The Sylvania Community Arts Commission introduces the Red Bird Arts District, an exciting new community collaborative event kicking off in downtown Sylvania on Friday, October 2nd. The Red Bird Arts District encompasses approximately 23 business members participating in monthly First Friday Art Walks. Running from 5 PM to 8 PM on the first Friday of the month, each business will host a special creative event including art exhibits, live music, culinary arts, demos and performances.

With the Hudson Gallery as an anchor of the arts on Main Street and the pending grand opening of the River Centre Gallery, Scott & Barb Hudson recognized the opportunity to establish an arts district within downtown Sylvania, an area also filled with boutiques, dining locations, creative agencies, photographers, design firms, newspapers and other creative businesses. A subcommittee of the Sylvania Community Arts Commission was formed and the Red Bird Arts District was established. One of the district’s main goals is to provide local creatives with additional venues to express themselves. This energy, along with the combination of two fine art galleries within a single block is an exciting new development within our region.

There are many creative elements that already exist within downtown businesses such as exhibition spaces, live music, culinary arts, studios, design firms and boutiques that celebrate the arts. By fostering this creative culture in Sylvania and building the community through art-related events, the city will continue to lead and grow as a destination for the arts, shopping, dining and entertainment.

More information on the businesses involved and the schedule of the art walks and other events can be found at redbirdarts.org or sylvaniaarts.org.
