Though the golf season in Monroe, Michigan may not be as lengthy as it is in Florida, the city has been ranked 6th in the country by the National Golf Foundation (NGF) in its latest annual study. Each year the NGF ranks 379 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) for per capita 18-hole golf.
Known for the La-Z-Boy headquarters, Monroe boasts 25 courses in the neighboring area and is the only Midwestern city to be included in the top 10 on the NGF ranking list. According to Golf Digest, there is one 18-hole course per 6,511 residents. This means in terms of accessibility, Monroe ranks higher than Phoenix, Orlando and even the golfing area surrounding Palm Springs.
