Rogers Girls Basketball Team Wins State Championship
With a 51-37 victory over Gilmour Academy in the Division II final, the Lady Rams of Rogers High School earned Toledo its first state basketball championship since 1990. Many outstanding boys and girls teams have reached deep into the state tournament in recent years, but the Lady Rams led by Coach Lamar Smith succeeded and brought the trophy home to Northwest Ohio.
Zia Cooke, rated by ESPN as the No. 7 overall player in the 2019 class, led the team with 33 points.
A parade to celebrate the team's accomplishment will take place this spring.
