Howard Marsh Metropark Now Open

The newest Toledo Metropark is now open to the public after a grand opening on April 28.

This is the sixteenth and second-largest Metropark, containing 1000 acres, with most of the land being restored to functioning wetlands near Lake Erie. It is made up of up of wetland, grassland and woodland areas.

The park contains six miles of dike-top trails for hiking, including a quarter-mile portion on boardwalk trails. More than six miles of permanent, deep-water channels are available for kayaking and canoeing. Visitors will also be able to fish at numerous platforms inside the marsh.

As a functioning wetland/marsh, it will provide a vital stopover habitat for a variety of birds, a spawning habitat for fish as well as a filter for runoff water before it reaches Lake Erie.

The park is located at 611 S. Howard Road, Curtice, just north of State Route 2 and is adjacent to the Metzger Marsh Wildlife Area. The park is free admission and open every day of the year from 7 a.m. until dark.
