Imagination Station Selected
The Imagination Station has been selected as a finalist for the 2016 National Medal for Museum and Library Service! Only 30 museums and libraries were selected for this honor, and Imagination Station was the only finalist in Ohio! This is the nation's highest honor given by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The award celebrates institutions that demonstrate extraordinary and innovative approaches to public service and are making a difference for individuals, families and communities. You can learn more about the award here.
All day today, the IMLS Facebook page will be sharing stories and memories that were submitted by visitors to the museum. The Imagination Station has also invited all of their visitors to connect and share stories with them via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Later this spring the National Medal winners will be named and honored in a White House ceremony. Just being nominated for the award and selected as one of the 30 museums and libraries in the country eligible to win is a great accomplishment for the Toledo Region. The award is very prestigious and has generated a lot of buzz and excitement online, in our community, and put our Toledo museum in the National Spotlight.
If you haven’t visited the Imagination Station lately, or at all, you must go in the coming weeks! There are many ways for the community to enjoy the museum or volunteer to continue to make their programs great. They were recognized for the contributions of their programs, including workshops at Lucas County Children Services, Science Story Times at Toledo's Robinson Elementary School, weekly and monthly segments on local television affiliates that bring science education to more than 33,000 viewers each week, the Adopt-a-School program, community events and outreach programming reaching more than 160,000 people last year, their innovation challenges and teacher professional development that foster fifth graders' persistence in solving problems.
In a recent release the Imagination Station Team said, “We would like to thank everyone for supporting our work to make a difference in our community!” As a region we would like to say – Bravo and thank you for providing these fun and educational opportunities in Toledo.
