Libbey Celebrates 200 Years
Libbey Inc. is celebrating a significant milestone in its history--a 200th anniversary.
The company started in 1818 as the New England Glass Company. It was not until 1892, after moving to Toledo four years prior, that Edward Drummond Libbey changed the name to today's famous moniker.
The company plans to host an invitation-only event in early May which will include a Toledo Symphony Orchestra performance. There will be several public event at different locations in the city including activities and glassblowing demonstrations at the Toledo Museum of Art, tours of the Edward D. Libbey House and special offers at the Glass Factory Outlet.
The Toledo Museum of Art will also salute the company's double century old history with a special exhibition of Libbey glass from its 650 piece collection.
