Washington Local

The Washington Local School District proudly provides individual attention and infinite opportunities. The district covers 17 square miles in Toledo, Ohio, serving approximately 7,000 students at 8 elementary schools, 2 single-grade junior highs, and 1 high school. Whitmer High School offers 200 courses, honors and AP classes, 14 career training programs, 22 varsity sports, more than 50 extracurricular activities, and an array of opportunities in art, music, and theatre. Nearly 40% of high school students are enrolled in foreign languages – Spanish, German, or French – and established partnerships with schools overseas offer optional summer exchange trips. Every elementary school has a full-time counselor while multiple counselors meet students in grades 7-12. A social worker provides additional support to Washington Local students and families. Whitmer received the National Blue Ribbon Health Education Award with Distinction in the program’s inaugural year (2009). In 2014, Washington Local was named the nation’s first Purple Heart School District in recognition of its efforts to honor veterans.
